Dr. Pradipto Bandyopadhyay presents his credentials...
In the initial stage of his career Dr. Pradipto Bandyopadhyay worked as Lecturer in English Literature in two colleges under the University of North Bengal---Mathabhanga College and Siliguri College during 1971-1974.This helped him grasp the issues relating to ethnicity, socio-economic and cultural problems and consequent unrest in that part of West Bengal. His book in Bangla’Kaler Bhelay Cooch-Beharer Saatkatha’ is a personalized account of his study of the people and society of the area.
Earlier, living in Kolkata , particularly in the Beadon Row area of the northern partof the city at the formative stage (1968-1970 A.D.) had exposed him to the ambience of Kolkata and its ethos. The University area in College Street, -Kolutala, Goldighi, Cornwallis Street(Bidhan Saranee), Amherst Street, Baitahakkhana Road, Hedua, Shyambazar,Bagbazar, Manicktala, Hatibagan, Sealdah, Moulali, Chitpur and Burrabazar localities were also his haunting ground. His student days passed in the midst of turmoil, chaos, movement and police action and the consequent uncertain times.
Work in connection with printing, publishing , book-binding of his Grandfather’s books and sale thereof and allied activities gave him a thorough idea of the activities and life of the publishing industry, and the marketing world.
Dr.Bandyopadhyay’s frequent visits to parts of South Kolkata like GolPark, Lake Gardens, Bhawanipore, Jadavpur, Tollygunge, , Rashbehari Avenue, Ballygange, Theatre Road ( Shakespeare Saranee) , Alipur National Library in connection with library work and receipt of guidance from the Professors influenced him substantially.
Dr.Bandyopadhyay’s stint in Kolkata from January 2004 to November 2006 exposed him to West Bengal -- issues and problems in the social economic cultural and political sphere. He published some of the books written by his Grandfather after minor editing and appropriate Introductory Notes. These include‘Mahanad Ba Banglar Gupta Itihaas; ‘Santali Bhasa’. The book entitled’ BinnaRehear Path ---Manaswi Prabhaschandra and Samakaalin BangaSamaj’ is based on the life and activities of Dr. Pradipto Bandyopadhyay’s Grandfather.
The book‘Santali Bhasa’ has been published with a new name and a detailed Introduction--- ‘ ‘Santali Bhasa O Rabindra Bhabnar Du Ek Katha”.
